THE OCICAT AND BENGAL CAT CLUB

About the Club

The Ocicat and Bengal Cat Club was the first club established in the UK for these very special breeds. Quickly gaining affiliation to the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy, the Club actively promotes the breeds, working with the other breed clubs firstly to gain preliminary recognition for the Bengal in July 1997 and, more recently, in the formation of the Bengal Breed Advisory Committee and the Ocicat Breed Advisory Committee.

The club has a committment to the welfare of both breeds and has been involved with the rescue of several cats into our 'safe houses'. All rescued cats are veterinary checked and spayed/neutered where required before being placed with loving, permanent homes. Fortunately, all these sad cases have had happy endings. Our committee members and Welfare officers all work on a voluntary basis providing time, transport, love and energy unstintingly, however we do rely on Club funds to meet veterinary costs. As a member, your support of the Club would help to provide this funding.

The Club also holds a kitten and stud register and we are compiling a breed record list to assist in the promotion of the progression of the breeds. See our 'Committee and Contacts' page for contacts.

The Club produces a newsletter 'Spoton Cats' - which members find interesting, informative and amusing. We are always keen to receive any items from our members and would be pleased if you would consider contributing something.

The Ocicat and Bengal Cat Club Annual Show

Our first exemption show was held in 1998 at the Bracknell Leisure Centre. This was a major success with people coming from all over the country to enter their cats in competition, place them on exhibition or just to view so many beautiful cats under one roof! The show is now an annual event at Bracknell and attracts huge interest.
